Zend Framework 1.0.1 Releases

The previous version 1.0.0 has only been out for a month and the community have already released an update. This mini release provides a fix for the some 33 known issues and also includes a few improvements. I’ve been playing with an installation of the framework over the last month and can see straight away that it’s a fairly powerful tool. However, there is still room for lots of improvement which I will detail over the next few weeks.

Throughout my last month of experimentation, I’ve found that many of the tutorials available online seen to no longer apply. The structure of the framework has evolved slightly (or the method used in the tutorials was incorrect to start with) causing the code to become unusable. I’ve still found the tutorials handy as a starting point and design pattern to follow for system development.

For those of you starting out, unsure of whether to give it a chance, I’d definitely recommend you try it. I’ll be posting a few beginner guides and tutorials on here over time to get you started. I’ll begin with installation and basic setup of the framework, covering some of the points which the provided documentation fails to mention. I will then be moving on to a guide to creating your first website powered by the framework, complete with user management and logins.

No doubt that in the time I’ve completed writing the tutorial, there will have been countless others surface, but hopefully it will be an interesting read and even if it only helps a small handful of people it’s still be worth it.
